The Gargano, from our doorstep

A little family guide to the places we love, all a short distance from the B&B

Mattinata is the southern gateway to the Gargano National Park: a white village nestled between two hills, facing a sea that changes colour by the hour. Some of Italy’s most spectacular coastline is just minutes away — and every spring the hills light up with over sixty species of wild orchids, a European botanical record we celebrate in the name of one of our rooms.

Baia delle Zagare

Baia delle Zagare

The two white sea stacks rising from turquoise water are the iconic image of the Gargano. About 15 minutes by car from Mattinata; beach access is regulated in summer — ask Nunzia how best to plan your visit.

Vignanotica Beach

Vignanotica Beach

At the foot of a hundred-metre white limestone cliff, among sea caves and Aleppo pines. Pale pebbles, crystal-clear water and, in the late afternoon, the cool shade of the rock face.

Umbra Forest

Umbra Forest

The green heart of the National Park, a UNESCO site for its ancient beech woods. Shady trails, a small lake, roe deer and a timeless silence: the perfect escape on the hottest days.

Trails and cycling

Trails and cycling

The coast between Mattinata and Vieste is a natural balcony over the Adriatic: panoramic trails among pines and olive groves, perfect on foot or with e-bikes from our partner rental.

And more: Monte Sant’Angelo with the UNESCO sanctuary of St Michael (20 min), Vieste and the Pizzomunno sea stack (40 min), boat trips to the sea caves departing from Mattinata’s harbour. Nunzia will be happy to help you arrange every excursion.
